The board's mission is to protect consumers and address licensees' legal concerns by giving recommendations to the Director of the Department of Licensing.

The board's vision is to promote safety through education and professional, competent practices.

About the board

Cosmetology Board members serve 3-year terms. There are 10 members:

• A consumer with no professional connection to the industry 
• A licensed professional representing each of the following professions: 
  • Barber 
  • Cosmetologist 
  • Esthetician 
  • Hair designer 
  • Manicurist 
  • Master esthetician
• An educational representative from each of the following:
  • Apprentice salon 
  • Private school 
  • Public vocational-technical school

All meetings are held virtually through Microsoft Teams. Board members attend online only, not in-person. You may attend virtually or in-person. For those who want to attend in-person, we provide a meeting room to view a livestream of the meeting. You can participate in the meeting through either attendance option.
