What you need to know
Paperless

If you've done business with us online and we have your email address on file, you may receive an email renewal notice.

Official emails from us come from noreply@notifications.dol.wa.gov.

Add noreply@notifications.dol.wa.gov to your email contact list to ensure notices don’t go to your spam folder.

You can opt out and receive a postcard by updating your preferences in My Account.

You'll receive a postcard instead of a full-size letter if you do not have a parking or toll violation or safety recall on your vehicle.

The postcard provides the fee amount and vehicle information.

To mail your payment, send the postcard and a check payable to DOL to the return address on the front of the postcard.

Driver/ID card renewal notices
Your driver license or ID card renewals may arrive by letter, postcard or email.
What you need to know

You may renew online every other renewal. You're required to update your photo every 16 years.

If you are over 70 years old, you must renew in person.

If you can renew online, you will receive a full-size letter or email, if you have signed up for email notices.

If we require you to renew in person, you will receive a postcard.

We're modernizing! We’re offering more digital options to meet our customers where they are. We’re providing the same information in a more convenient way.
How do I know if this notice is legit?
You can always check your vehicle and license status on My Account. You can also look at your license or license plate to see when you need to renew. All official emails from us will come from noreply@notifications.dol.wa.gov.
How did you get my email?
You provided it to us when doing a previous transaction.
How do I change how I receive my renewal notice?
You can change your preferences on My Account. You’ll need to change your driver license/ID preference under your name and each vehicle separately.
