Learn how to get your course approved if you're a home inspector educator.
Things to know
- We must approve all home inspector courses before you can offer them.
- Educators should submit courses for approval well in advance of the course start date. It may take up to 45 days to complete the approval process.
- New courses: Fundamentals of Home Inspection and Continuing Education Courses
How to get your course approved
1. Gather the required documents
Prepare your documents to upload to your Box account:
- Home Inspector Course Approval Application
- A course curriculum or syllabus
- Any text, handouts, and other instructional materials
Fundamentals of Home Inspection only:
- A final examination and answer key, with a minimum of 200 questions
- Home Inspection Fundamentals Rubric
- Educators must complete page 6 and upload the entire document to their DOL Box.com account.
2. Submit your application
Apply for course approval online
Upload your application and paperwork to your DOL Box.com account. Do not upload it to our Business and Professional Licensing system.
Apply for course approval by mail
Complete a Home Inspector Course Approval Application.
If you're offering continuing education courses online, complete a Home Inspectors Distance Education Delivery Method Application.
Mail your form(s) and a check or money order (payable to the Department of Licensing) for the course review fee to:

After we approve your course
We'll give you a certificate of approval. You can either log into your SAW account and print your own certificate or request a mailed copy for a $5 fee.
Renew your course
- Your course will expire 2 years from the approval date.
- The renewal notice will appear on your dashboard in the Business and Professional Licensing System; you will not be mailed a notice.
If there are no changes in your course content, you can renew online or by mail. If there are changes in your course content, please follow the approval process for new courses.

Log into SecureAccess Washington (SAW) or create an account to renew and pay the course renewal fee.
Renew your course by mail
Complete a Home Inspector Course Approval Application.
Mail your form(s) and a check or money order (payable to the Department of Licensing) for the course renewal fee to:
