If you or your spouse have a valid out-of-state license in good standing, you can transfer it to Washington State under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). The SCRA allows you or your spouse to transfer your license to Washington when relocating due to military orders. We recognize these qualifying out-of-state licenses as valid.
We created a license reciprocity process to help you transfer your license. Our requirements for licensure are compatible with the SCRA. You may need to submit a background check and fingerprints for some professions.
Eligibility
To transfer your license to Washington State under the SCRA, you must:
- Hold a professional or vocational license in good standing in another licensing jurisdiction.
- Moved to Washington because of military orders for military service.

- Remain in good standing with the licensing authority that issued your out-of-state license.
- Submit to our authority for:
- Standards of practice.
- Discipline.

Spouses/domestic partners must maintain marriage or other legal union with a service member subject to military orders.
