Anyone who holds an active landscape architect license in another state or country and wants to work as a landscape architect in Washington.
How to apply
Follow the steps below to get your landscape architect license by reciprocity.
1. Meet the requirements
To qualify for a license, you must:
- Hold an active landscape architect license in another state or country
- Have qualifications and experience that meet the following criteria:
- If you have a degree, qualifications that have been evaluated and meet the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) Standard of Eligibility for Council Certification.
- If you don't have a degree, qualifications and experience comparable to WAC 308-13-020(1)(b).
2. Complete all the necessary forms
Complete the Landscape Architect Law Summary Review Exam.
If applying by mail, you must also complete a Landscape Architect License Application.
If you have a CLARB Council Record, complete sections 1, 3, and 5 only.
3. Submit certification to the state board
If you have a CLARB Council Record, have CLARB transmit your record to the board via email (email must come directly from a third party).
If you don’t have a CLARB Council Record, have all of the following documents sent to the address shown below:
- Official college transcripts from your college or university
- Certification that you've completed one of the following exams from the state where you received your first license:
- Landscape Architect Registration Exam
- Uniform National Exam for Landscape Architects
- Certification of a valid landscape architect license from the state where you are currently licensed

4. Submit your application
You must pay the 2-year licensing fee when you submit your application. Choose the method that works best for you.
