Fees for custom plates
We charge an additional fee for special design backgrounds and personalized license plates. You’ll need to pay this fee when applying for your plate. The amount does not include your registration and tabs, which vary depending on the type of vehicle you have. Contact a vehicle licensing office to find out the total cost of your plates.
The fees listed below are in addition to your regular vehicle registration.

Renewal fees
When you renew your vehicle registration and tabs, you will also need to pay a yearly renewal fee for your custom plates:
- $30 for special background plates
- $52 for personalized plates
- $82 for special background plates that are personalized
