Learn how to update your name or address on a vehicle or boat registration or title.
Before you get started
If you've changed your address, you must update your vehicle or boat record.
- Changing your address on one vehicle doesn't automatically change it on other vehicles or boats.
- If you have a loan or lien on your vehicle or boat you must change your address through the lienholder (not the Department of Licensing).
- You must also update your address on your driver license, or update your address on your Enhanced Driver License.
Note: You won't automatically get a new title or registration when you change your address. If you want an updated title or registration, you may request one for a fee (see below).

Which address should I use?
The address you should use depends on your situation.
Personally-owned vehicle or boat
Use your residential street address.
You don't need to provide an address if:
- You're exempt from paying motor vehicle excise taxes or fees.
- Your vehicle is exempt from motor vehicle excise taxes or fees.
- You are unhoused.
Business-owned vehicles
Use the Washington street address of the principal place of business.
If you want a new title or registration
You won't automatically get a new title or registration when you change your address. If you want an updated title or registration, you may request one for a fee:

Update your Good To Go! account

Record
This is the information we have about your vehicle or boat, such as your name, address, endorsements, restrictions, etc.
Title
This document is your proof of ownership. It is issued when you first purchase your vehicle or boat.
Do not keep your title in your vehicle or boat. Store it in a safe place.
Registration
This is the document you sign when you renew your vehicle's tabs each year. Keep this in your vehicle.
