Community engagement and outreach

We work directly with the community providing support and critical information to people across Washington, focusing on underserved communities with limited access to our services.

Our goal

Our community engagement and outreach team strives to provide equitable and increased access to the Department of Licensing's information and services within underserved communities.

What we do

Our team works directly with community groups, not-for-profit organizations, resource providers, and community residents.

Events

We attend outreach and community resource events to ensure that all community members, regardless of their national origin or language, know how to access our services and provide feedback.

Seek feedback

We intentionally listen to the community and partners to gain insights on barriers to access to services and immediately feed them back into programs to improve policies and services. We would love to hear your feedback and discuss possible solutions. Your feedback will help us:

  • Identify important issues unique to communities
  • Understand and work to eliminate barriers to our services
  • Demonstrate respect for all unique cultures

Training

We utilize a “train the trainer” approach to support familiarize and train the limited English proficient (LEP) communities, their leaders, and organization staff about our services and programs including:

  • Driver licenses and permits
  • ID card requirements
  • Buying and selling vehicles
  • Business and professional licenses
  • REAL ID

Our presentations are available in English and Spanish.

Language access

We provide equitable access to agency services and programs by translating and providing interpreters for information that directly impacts LEP communities. The information is presented in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.

Media

We proactively work with multi-cultural media outlets to further reach more people across the state.

Who we help

Our focus is on working with underserved communities, meeting where they’re at to provide information they may not be able to access. We value spending time with community organizations and partners to build relationships and trust, bringing information directly to communities.
