How do I register to vote?

There are 3 ways to become a registered voter in Washington.

Online

Visit the Secretary of State website to register online.

In person

You can register in person when completing a transaction at any driver licensing office. Residents who are 16 and 17 years old can pre-register to vote when applying for a driver license or ID card.

By mail

Fill out a voter registration form. You can use the last 4 digits of your social security number (SSN) if you don't have a Washington State driver license or ID card.

Who can register to vote?

You can register to vote if you are:

• A citizen of the United States, and
• A Washington State resident, and
• At least 18 years old by Election Day, and
• Not currently serving a sentence in prison under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections for a Washington felony conviction, and
• Not currently incarcerated for a federal or out-of-state felony conviction, and
• Not disqualified from voting due to a court order.

Moving within Washington? Update your voter registration

If you move to a new address inside the state, you'll need to update your voter registration before you can vote.

• Update your voter registration while completing a transaction at any driver licensing office, or
• Contact your county auditor by phone, email, or mail

Jury duty notification

The Secretary of State’s office provides your name and mailing address to Washington State courts for possible jury selection.

We're required to ask if you’d like to opt-in with your email address as an additional way of getting jury duty notices. You will still receive notices by mail if you opt-out. Opting-in will not increase your chances of being selected.
