If you feel that someone you know is no longer able to drive safely, you can report them as an unsafe driver.
Before you get started
Processing times
It may take 7-10 business days for processing after receiving your documents. Requests with incomplete information may take longer to process.
If you have not received an update within 30 days, please contact us at 360-902-3900.
How to report an unsafe driver
Complete a Driver Evaluation Request (available in English, Español, Русский, and more).
Things to keep in mind when reporting
1. Be specific
- Describe in detail the driving abilities and medical or vision conditions of the driver.
- Include supporting documents with your completed report if necessary.
2. Age is not a factor
- Just because a driver has reached a certain age doesn't mean that they're an unsafe driver.
- Medical conditions that affect driver safety can happen at any age.
3. Information must be personal knowledge or observation
- We won't accept secondhand information or anonymous letters.
What happens after we receive a report
We review the information to determine the next steps. One or more of the following may happen:
1. We'll send the driver a medical or vision certificate asking for more information from a physician or eye doctor.
2. We'll require the driver to retake the driving knowledge and skills tests.
3. We'll require that the driver get equipment to accommodate any impairments.
4. We'll cancel the driving privilege of any drivers we determine are a threat to public safety.
Confidentiality
Information we receive about unsafe drivers isn't confidential under state law. Drivers or their attorneys can submit a written request to receive a copy of the report. However, don't let that stop you from intervening when your safety and the safety of others are at risk.
