Renewing a license: Real estate salespersons

Both inactive and active salespersons are required to renew on or before the expiration date indicated on the license. Renewal notices and continuing education affidavits (if renewing on an active status) are mailed approximately 60 days prior to the date of renewal.

You have one year from the expiration date of your license to pay your renewal and penalty fee or your license will be canceled. Each licensee is responsible for renewing their license on time. Please be aware of the expiration date on your license, as you are also considered unlicensed during the expiration period.

Fees

  • $146.25 if paid by the due date
  • $172.75 if late

Requirements

  • An actively licensed salesperson is required to complete 30 hours of approved real estate education to renew the license.
  • If you are a salesperson actively renewing for the first time, you must also complete a 30-hour course in real estate practices, for a total of 60 hours. An actively licensed broker is required to complete 30 hours of approved real estate education to renew the license.
  • Licensees renewing on or after June 1, 2004 must include 3 hours of prescribed core curriculum in the 30 hours required for the renewal of an active license.
  • Inactive licenses are not required to complete the continuing education at the time of renewal.

How to renew

  • Renewal fees and continuing education may be submitted by mail or in person at our Olympia office.
  • Online renewal is also available by using a Visa or Mastercard Debit, entering the password that is provided on your renewal notice and, if actively licensed, education information. When the on-line renewal process is complete, a confirmation screen will be displayed that you should print for your records.

Renewed licenses will be sent to the address on file within 14 business days.
